Box Office Day 1: 'Son of Sardaar 2' Outperforms 'Dhadak 2' with Double the Earnings
Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2 earns ₹6.65 crore on Day 1, nearly double Dhadak 2, as both films face stiff competition from YRF’s hit Saiyaara.
Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2 dominates Day 1 box office, earning twice as much as Dhadak 2 amid Saiyaara's ongoing success.

Siddhant Chaturvedi–Triptii Dimri's "Dhadak 2" and Ajay Devgn's "Son of Sardaar 2" began their box office duel with varying reviews, but Devgn's comedy sequel started off with a sizable early lead.
Son of Sardaar 2 made ₹6.65 crore on its first day of release, almost twice as much as Dhadak 2, which made about ₹3.35 crore, according to preliminary estimates from trade portal Sacnilk. Even though the two films came out during the 'Saiyaara' craze, Devgn's family entertainer was the bigger draw.
The Recurring Formula of "Son of Sardaar 2" with Contradictory Outcomes
The film, which was directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, has Ajay Devgn as the eccentric and boisterous Jassi again, but this time he is lost in Scotland and, as reviews indicate, in the writing as well. India Today and other critics gave the movie a 2.5-star rating, describing it as "awkward, exaggerated, and carried by recycled Indo-Pak humour."
The film won Day 1 at the box office thanks to its comic angle and widespread appeal, even though the reviews were mediocre.
The 'Dhadak 2' Does Not Live Up to Expectations
With Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in the key parts, Dhadak 2 is positioned as a romantic drama with societal relevance. The film's performance on Day 1 suggests a slower start than anticipated, despite its attempt to modernise the original's themes.
What Is The 'Saiyaara' Effect? A Box Office Upstart
The struggle for both recent movies is further compounded by YRF's musical drama "Saiyaara," which is still dominating the box office after three weekends. The film, which starred debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, brought in ₹284.75 crore after earning ₹4.25 crore on Day 15. By the end of the weekend, the movie is expected to reach the ₹300 crore mark thanks to momentum.
What Lies Ahead?
With Saiyaara still drawing large audiences and both Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2 facing lukewarm responses, it remains to be seen how the weekend unfolds for the new releases. Word of mouth and weekend footfall will be crucial in determining whether either film can stabilize at the box office.
